Workshop 7 Individual Assignment – Audience

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ken Fero @ 11:18 pm

Objective: Research screening and distribution.

Once your COVENTRY PEOPLE production is completed where can it be screened? Working as individuals undertake research to establish what forms of distribution are available for you to show your three-minute film. You need to consider the following:

Broadcast
Internet
Festivals
Screenings
Cinema

Look at this at a local, national and international level.

Once this is done:
1. Prepare a list of 5 possible screenings and why they are appropriate for your film in terms of audience, profile and criteria.

2. Write a 50-word review of your own film.

Delivery date: Workshop 9 Thursday 11th March on blog

Week 7 Lecture – Radical Research

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ken Fero @ 9:40 am

Ewa Jasiewicz
Thursday 25th February 11.30-12.30
Lecture Theatre ET130

This weeks lecture will be given by Ewa Jasiewicz who is a writer, journalist and activist. Ewa’s approach to her media work is radical both in its content and production. She was in Baghdad during the US/British occupation of Iraq (including a group protest inside the press conference of the Supreme Commander of the US Occupation Forces General Sanchez where she got physically ejected) and was reporting from inside Gaza during the 2008 siege by Israel. She is currently involved in the Free Gaza flotilla taking sail this spring and is featured in the recent film ‘To Shoot an Elephant’ by Alberto Arce and Mohammad Rujailah from which she will show excerpts. Ewa is co-edior of Le Monde Diplomatique Polish Edition.

Ewa has a different point point of view from the embedded and self censored reporting that Sky and the BBC are so fond off. We have already looked at oppositional points of view as research paths earlier on in the module and Ewa will develop this in more detail.

Workshops following are as normal but Ewa will also be present to give you feedback on your own research work.

Starsuckers – Screening at Warwick University

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ken Fero @ 1:37 pm

Some of you may be interested in the screening of the film Starsuckers (http://www.starsuckersmovie.com/), the latest documentary from director Chris Atkins, within the student organized One World Week event at the Warwick Arts Centre. Wednesday 27th January
Screening Time: 13:30 plus Q+A with Director. Box Office: 0247 652 4524 Here’s a trailer of the film
The film is the antithesis of the concept of ‘Coventry People’ but it’s worth watching to get a sense of the influence of the media on viewers. You should also check out One World Week as there are other events going on where you will find characters for your own research project if you have not done so already.
